Talking Wellness with Peter – Water Element

In Chinese Philosophy, the season associated with the Water Element is Winter. One of the great lessons of Winter is that it is a time of stillness. We all need stillness in everyday life. Most of us get plenty of physical stillness, but even more important is mental stillness…turning off your mind for a little bit every day. A regular practice of quieting your mind will have profound effects on your life.

What are some of the ways you still and quiet your mind during the Winter?

  1. I could not get the video to play.

  2. Meditation, for sure. I don’t know how people do without quieting “monkey minds..no reprieve”.
I always enjoy your articles BUT having you teach via video?!? LOVE<LOVE< LOVE! Peter, this is THE best, article switch-up! I appreciate how much more time consuming a video is to produce, than writing and am grateful for both.
Through this video, I learned my husband and I act from opposite spectrums "when in fear". He deeply digs into resources "throwing everything" and I freeze. Knowledge=power (?), seems truth only with ACTION.
How do I find a "middle" and act?
Thirsty for and can not get too much DT!
Currently, multiple times a day–Well Life (TWL): Book, Course & meditations, Live Pain Free Course & mediations. I am reading and listening…but frozen in "acting" in areas of importance. (Example: I know TWL teaches how to "act". But so overwhelmed with catastrophes. Owned 108 Rituals for Transformation (RFT), since first shipments. But "acting"? Zero in that arena.. but reading TWL, FB postings and wrote for there for two hours yesterday then my post disappeared.) Lack of structure here!! Lots of Spaciousness & Sweetness. I recognize, for certain!
I would be described as happy, friendly AND busy.
This week I did moxie (40 minutes straight), reflexology/massage, red-light (twice), meditation (more than daily), METH (lol), ibuprofen (even), EO's including Muscle Melt, yoga (five classes), hours mingling with friends/people.
All this while really avoiding acting at producing or putting out a resume…when our resources are going toward three houses with zero income. Translation: draining finances, emotions, health.
I believe the new pain in my hip and leg, causing me to need support walking the past two days, is due to my freezing.
We are both suffering; almost to point of desperation.

    1. Thanks for sharing! I’m glad you’ve gotten some value from these articles, videos, and books! You don’t have to do it all at once. It sounds like there are a lot of challenges at the moment, but I would guess that you’re stronger than you think, and you’re committed to figuring out a healthy way through all of this, which is so important. I wish you the best.
      Peter

  3. “Fear is “just” a feeling. Recognize it. It doesn’t get to control you.” I pictured two dams, filled with water…one frozen solid and the second broken damaging every structure downstream. Water/fear has profound impact when not managed properly. Your teachings are powerfully appreciate.

  4. The timing of this couldn’t be more perfect for my life. Thank you!

    1. You’re welcome, Lisa! I’m glad it was helpful.

  5. Thank you Peter, I am just now coming to a place that I can create a place and time to experience stillness. Winter is one of my favorite seasons to just sit. I find the need to fill up and refresh my center for the work that I do and winter grants me this. Being an Aquarius water is an element I bring into play as often as possible.

    1. You’re welcome, Dee. I’m glad you are able to do this for yourself. I hope it becomes an enduring practice for you.

  6. So much content in such a short time. Thank you for sharing your insight.

    1. You’re welcome, Susan

  7. I loved this video. I am watching the snow out of the window and am thankful for it because it makes me physically slow down. I can’t run to the office, errands, etc… However, what I really loved this morning was the meditation to quiet my mind for awhile. You are so right, the effect is profound. I used to hate getting up early and frankly was not pleasant to be around. Now I wake up and think, “oh, I get to go to my sanctuary where I journal and meditate first thing in the morning.” I am so much more productive and clear for the day. The quiet time is essential, morning and night for me. I am thankful to you and Brianna for Dragontree and the guidance to make this happen.

    1. Thanks, Shawna. What a nice reminder from nature you got! Yes, this winter reminds us that we’re made of the same stuff as the natural world, prone to the same limitations, flowing through the same cycles. and I’m so glad you’ve started to appreciate the value of meditation!
