Time for Thai Massage!

I recently had the pleasure of receiving a Thai massage from Jante, a wonderfully talented massage therapist here at our NW Portland location. It was a relaxing and energizing experience. If you have not had a Thai massage before, I’ll tell you a little about it here.

Thai massage is a style of massage that developed in Thailand as a healing modality several thousand years ago. It has been influenced by the traditional medicines of India, China, and Southeast Asia. It is very similar to yoga, and in fact is often called “yoga massage”, because the practitioner positions your body in yoga postures during the massage. The massage therapist will use rhythmic pressure and stretching, and will work along the body’s energy lines. The massage therapist does this using both their hands and feet to work on the body.

The benefits of Thai massage include a feeling of relaxation, a decrease in stress, improved circulation, an increase in energy level, increased flexibility, and improved range of motion.

At the Dragontree, a Thai massage is 90 minutes long. It is performed on a mat on the floor, and uses no oil. The client should wear loose, comfortable clothing, similar to what one would wear to a yoga class. I would recommend this type of massage to anyone who loves yoga, anyone who is looking for a massage with a lot of stretching, or an experienced spa-goer who is looking to try something different. I would also suggest pairing it with one of our Ayurvedic foot baths. You will leave feeling both relaxed and energized, and ready to take the day with a clear mind. You will be glad you took some time out of your day for a Thai massage with Jante!
