Why Set Goals?

It’s only October, yet if you’re anything like me, you’re already thinking about the holidays and the end of the year. It can be easy to get overwhelmed or feel like it’s all we can do just to keep up with our schedules and take care of all the things that need to be taken care of. When we’re in that mindset, it can feel impossible (or even pointless) to take the time to sit down with ourselves and set goals.

But, I’ve found that taking the time to create goals that are aligned with purpose and true desires actually creates more ease and momentum in all parts of life.

When done right:

Setting goals is way to let your heart & soul speak to your schedule.

When you know your purpose, your values, and your gifts, and you use them to set goals that you actually, deeply and sincerely, want to accomplish and then use a system for breaking those goals down and getting them done – planning becomes sacred, and simple.

It becomes a matter of putting bite sized tasks into your calendar with the self-trust that you’ll actually do them and then taking action – and before we know it, you’re achieving your goals and living out your dreams.

Setting goals is fun!

Okay, hear me out on this one, I know not everyone takes as much joy in dreaming, scheming, and planning as I do. But, regardless setting goals is a way to experiment and create.

As human beings we are blessed with the ability to bring into existence what was not here before. We get to live at the very frontier of creation – if we allow ourselves to and give ourselves the tools to do it.

What if we didn’t make goal setting some heavy and draining activity with an undertone of lack? And instead saw it as a game of Creating the Universe, where you get to choose what you want to create, what you want to be known for, and how you want to do this thing called life.

So….what is trying to come through & be created by you?

Setting goals gives us the opportunity to stay on purpose in our life.

True alignment is the feeling that what you’re doing every day & what your soul came here to do are in line. Setting authentic goals (and using a system like The Dreambook to accomplish them) is one of the best ways to do this.

Accomplishing goals that express your purpose aligns you in a way that only right action does. Your goals are a portal through which your purpose can come through.

And if you don’t know what your purpose is – now is the best time to dive in and figure it out. The Dreambook has a whole section in the beginning to help with this, so you can be assured that the goals you set will be rooted and meaningful for you.

Setting goals helps keep us engaged.

Whether your 20 or 90, being fully engaged in your life is absolutely essential for feeling happy, free, and expressed. Goals don’t have to look like material gains or status (in fact our most soul-spoken goals rarely are), but they should give us something to play with – a direction for our wandering.

Whether your goal is to feel more at home in your skin or create a hip group of retired musicians to play music with weekly or to start an art college in your town – having the goal and working toward it necessarily requires you to be actively involved in the creation of your life, rather than checking out or living in reaction mode. And that is a powerful place to be living from.

So, are you ready to set some goals?

It’s the perfect time.

We created our Dreambook to be the perfect tool to set soul-spoken goals, break them down, and achieve them with grace.

Come dream and plan with me,

Briana
