Ah, the New Year. Fresh, open, and undefined.
Except for the things already on your calendar. And the choices you set in motion months ago that will still be unfolding when January arrives. But besides that, it’s a blank page.
Last week I suggested keeping your resolutions simple, choosing just one thing. This week, I want to offer a bigger container for that commitment: choose a theme for 2026.
A theme is different from a goal. It’s not a checklist. It’s a way of orienting yourself. A phrase that helps you remember what matters when life gets busy.
If you have our Dreambook, there’s a space to name your Theme of the Year and return to it often. If you don’t, or even if you do and want to make this feel more ceremonial, write your theme on a beautiful piece of paper with a pen you love. Frame it, tape it to the wall, slip it into your journal, or place it somewhere you will see it every day.
Here are a few questions to help you listen for your theme as you imagine a year that feels clear, supported, meaningful, and alive.
-
Who do you want to be this year? What part of your potential wants room to grow?
-
What do you want to bring to the people around you? How do you want your presence to affect your environment?
-
What do you want to be a channel for? How do you want to speak, act, and choose with intention?
-
How do you want to grow this year? What helps you stay connected to what is true for you?
Take your time with these. You might want to write your answers down and see what repeats. Out of everything that arises, what feels most sincere? What feels most helpful to your life and the people you love? What feels like a steady thread you could hold all year long?
Here are some examples:
The Year of Loving Myself Completely.
The Year of Living My Purpose.
The Year of Learning to Trust.
The Year of Owning My Power.
The Year of Healing My Body.
The Year of Playfulness.
The Year of Lightheartedness.
The Year of Remembering We’re All Connected.
The Year of Forgiveness.
The Year of Simplicity.
The Year of Living Through My Heart.
Once you choose your theme, read it each morning. And if you have a minute, feel into what life becomes as you live it. Say to yourself: “I’m already on my way. Today I choose to stay aware of this theme and look for simple ways to practice it.”
Wishing you your best year yet,
Peter
