The Gentle Reset You Didn’t Know You Needed

The Gentle Reset You Didn’t Know You Needed

on

Hey there, Did you actually do it? That thing you said you were going to do?

Did you…

  • make it to that early AM yoga class?

  • fix that leak under the sink?

  • have that hard conversation with your mom?

  • clean out the garage?

  • set up your website?

We all have things we say we are going to do that somehow just don’t make the cut.

Whether we get busy, overwhelmed or distracted, or something deeper is keeping us from getting our goals met, it can feel like we have really fallen off the wagon.

In each moment in which we break a commitment to ourselves, we also start to wear away at our sense of self trust.

These broken commitments, even just to ourselves, can make it hard to jump back on the planning wagon.

It doesn’t take long before we start to feel like we are people who can’t be trusted to do the things we say we are going to do. And if that’s true, why make commitments at all?

So, how do you get back on the wagon?

Here is a simple 4 part process that can move you forward with ease, and possibly even joy. ;) It’s a 4 part prayer designed to help you wipe the slate clean internally and launch you into your next steps. It goes like this:

I love you

I’m sorry

Please forgive me

Thank you *

I love you. Remind yourself that at your core, these broken agreements or busy weeks have no bearing on your worthiness or inner self. You are worthy of love just because you are. Don’t forget to remember that. Remind yourself with a simple “I love you.”

Apologize and forgive yourself for breaking your agreements, and, if others were  impacted, seek their forgiveness as well. Without downplaying these to make the events at hand meaningless, and also without any performative drama or extra self-flagellation, simply forgive. Things happened. I got scared, distracted, busy, overworked, or overwhelmed. I forgive myself. I forgive myself for being human.

Thank yourself for showing up now, even if it hasn’t always been perfect. You’re learning! And here you are, willing to learn again.

I love you, I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you. I love you, I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you.

This simple set of phrases can calm your system, clear the air, and help you turn to the next blank page in your planner with confidence and peace.
