Cold plunge in the heart of Boulder

At The Dragontree Sanctuary on Broadway in Boulder, cold plunges are part of a deeply restorative circuit that includes a cedar sauna, cedar hot tub, steam room, salt room, and forest showers. Every 90-minute Sanctuary Session gives you access to the full experience, inviting you to move between warmth and cold in whatever rhythm feels best.

For centuries, people have turned to cold water to awaken the body and quiet the mind. At the Sanctuary, you can explore this timeless ritual in a beautiful, thoughtfully cared-for space - on your own or alongside friends.

What does a cold plunge feel like?

The first few seconds command your attention. Your breath quickens, your skin tingles, and the rest of the world falls away.

Slow your exhale. Soften your shoulders. Gradually, the initial intensity gives way to a feeling that is clear, bright, and wonderfully alive. When you step out, warmth begins to return, leaving you alert, grounded, and fully present.

How to pair a cold plunge with the sauna

Many guests enjoy pairing the plunge with heat. If you are new to contrast therapy, try this gentle rhythm:

  • Begin in the cedar sauna, steam room, or hot tub, allowing yourself to warm through.
  • Refresh beneath the forest showers.
  • Ease into the cold plunge and stay only as long as feels comfortable. Even a brief first dip is enough.
  • Rest, breathe, and give your body time to settle before beginning another round.

Two or three rounds can fit comfortably into a 90-minute session. There is nothing to prove and no goal to reach - simply listen to your body and let the experience unfold at your own pace.

New to cold plunging?

You are warmly welcome. Enter slowly, continue breathing, and stay for only as long as feels right. Our Sanctuary attendants are nearby if you would like guidance or have questions.

If you are pregnant or have a health condition, please consult your doctor before using heat or cold therapies.

Cold Plunge questions

How long should I stay in the cold plunge?

Stay as long as feels comfortable. Many first-timers start with a short dip and build from there. If you feel woozy or unwell in any way, get out and rest.

Should I use the sauna before the cold plunge?

Many guests do. Warming up first in the cedar sauna, steam room, or hot tub, then rinsing under the forest showers, makes the cold plunge part of a simple hot and cold ritual. Two or three rounds fit easily into a 90-minute session.

Is the cold plunge included in a Sanctuary Session?

Yes. Every 90-minute Sanctuary Session includes the cold plunges, cedar hot tub, cedar sauna, steam room, salt room (halotherapy), and forest showers. Sessions are $67, or $47 Mon-Thurs, 9a-4p. You can also add a Sanctuary Session to your 60 minute (or longer) treatment for $20.

I'm new to heat and cold. Is that okay?

Care for your body: if you feel woozy or unwell in any way, stop your session. Start gently and go at your own pace, and if you're pregnant or have a health concern, check with your doctor before using the heat or cold.

What should I bring?

Swimwear is required in all communal spaces. If you don't have appropriate clothing, speak to a Sanctuary attendant. Please do not bring any valuables, such as jewelry, to the Sanctuary. We'll provide a towel and sandals.
