Move Out of the Winter Blahs

It’s that time of year again.  You think I’m going to talk about Valentines Day, don’t you?  No.  Not today.

It’s the time of year where winter seems to be taking FOREVER to turn into spring.  The holidays are over.  Even the first month of the year is over.  In Portland, it’s still cold and rainy.  Where you’re at may still be snowy, slushy, icy, or hailing.  Last year at this time, I REALLY noticed that the winter was getting to me and started taking some steps to counteract the winter blahs.  Step one was going to my doctor for some blood tests.  Step two was going to a naturopath who interpreted those blood tests.
As a result, I’ve taken many supplements consistently over the year.  I think my iron levels must have been on the low side for most of my life.  The blood test I had done last year when I was in the midst of the blahs showed that my iron levels were indeed below normal and normal has quite a range.  The year of taking supplements have made a difference in my energy level that I’d never experienced.  (Just in case you’re curious, I’ve been taking the Iron with Vitamin C, a high quality B complex, Pantethine, Evening Primrose, Vitamin D (can’t recommend this highly enough), and a very high quality Daily Vitamin.  Majority of these supplements are carried at both of our locations and on our online store, so feel free to ask questions about what is ailing you. Even if we don’t have an immediate answer, we have the tools to look up the information!)
So what if your energy levels are okay from a nutritional point of view, but you still want to build and live in your blanket fort?  (I’ve been struggling with this one for the past week.)  MAKE yourself get up and do whatever it is you need to do.  At this very moment, writing this while listening to awesome music is what I needed to do. (I am listening to We Are Going to Eat You’s, ‘Everywhen’ album.) Next I need to get back to exercising consistently.
Yoga and gym cardio are my tools.  (I’d just jog if my knees weren’t grumpy from years of running track. My landing leg from hurdles is especially grumpy.)  I need to make sure I make plans and not pass them up for my blanket fort.  I’ve started writing music again.  I’ve resurrected my own personal blog.
What is your answer?  What is in the back of your mind that you haven’t been doing lately?  Go do it!
Take a trip!  Have a craft night with your friends.  (Our Retail Manager, Hilary, is AMAZING at getting these together.)   Join a club.  Take a class. Volunteer!  Do a little dance…  Or you can listen to a track from “Everywhen” as well…
