The Power of Touch

I had a really great experience recently, and it was accompanied by the crystal-clear realization that I had forgotten about the power of touch. One of the main reasons I was drawn to being an Esthetician (and formerly a massage therapist) was that I responded so positively to my early spa treatments. Years, and more years, roll by, as is about to happen again with the arrival of 2012, and I get caught up in the multitude of important details involved in working in a spa. While these details are essential to making a spa the restorative experience we all hope it to be for our clients, it clearly is not the most essential part, not the magic ingredient.

One of the wonderful parts of working at The Dragontree is that we are given certificates for different spa treatments every month! I have found that us folks that work in spas can often be like the shoemaker’s children running around without shoes. Just like everyone else on the planet, our lives get busy, and our budgets get stretched, and we wind up going months or even years without experiencing what we provide to others. So getting this certificate, along with a blessed expiration date prompting us out of procrastination, is a delight. My first such experience was a massage with our much-loved massage therapist Coko. She had such amazing skills to intuit just what my body and spirit must have needed. I felt like a giant “reset” button in my being had been pressed. I felt physically comforted and balanced, but also more clear headed, inspired and even optimistic about life in general. Yes, I had once again forgotten about the power of touch, and I was very thankful to be reminded. Thank you Dragontree, and thank you Coko for the magic I needed.
